UNISVERE ONLINE :: Development

Sun, 28 Dec 2008 16:25:58 GMT
[Pronounced Uni-Sphere]

About

UNISVERE ONLINE is an up and coming F2P (Free to Play) MMORPG where you fight, trade and play as various characters under many names, professions, looks and characteristics. You will be able to earn the in-game currency (credits) by killing creatures and looting their remains – they will give back credits and items they were previously holding. You can also use skills in-game to make sellable items such as weapons, health packs, nano packs and much more! Credits will also be available to buy in large quantities on the UO website.

We are an active MMORPG in development, with updates posted on-site and forums daily, without fail. We are always working on something - whether its improving our graphics or perfecting our storyline.

Storyline

It is mid 3000 AD. Advances in nanobot technology means that all races are now completely dependent on nanobots to keep Sector 12 going. Sector 12, forged by human ancestors in 2850 AD is a cross galaxy empire, used as a connection between Earth - the dead storage planet for the empire, Solis – the new home of the human race and ground zero for our first alien contact and finally Oreana and Orana – the twin military planets, bases for the ongoing struggle for power between the Emperor’s army and the Rebellion.

The fight first began in 2900, when people started becoming dependant on nanobots to survive – it almost became a type of drug. It drove people to turn to crime to afford the latest nanobot formulas and so the Rebellion was formed. A group of people who decided nanobots will not benefit them at all – they choose not to use them and attack all who do. The empire continues to use nanobots to better Sector 12’s economy and control the substances distribution.

Where Do I Come In?

We are currently looking for volunteers to give up their time with 3D graphics, C++ coding and various other areas of our development. More information can be found at the links below:

Terra Tactics Online (under development)

The project is a 2D isometric open world browser based multiplayer tactical game.
Thats a mouth full. O.o
I am the lead artist, I'm a pixel artist with 3 years experience.

I've got a current 'engine' though it's limiting since it's written in AJAX.
I'm trying to find a better way to code this game, but since I am not a coder I am unable to do anything.
So at the moment I will be continuing with making it using the current engine.
If any of you are interested in helping me that'd be awesome. :]

Battles against monsters would all be done in the open world, where as PvP and GvG would take place in instances.
At the start the player must choose race, skin color, hair and eye color, this is all done by a dynamic image layering system
Players have to build their characters stats to appropriately match the needs of their class.

For more information view the Development Forum.

Hope to see you guys on the forums, I'm always looking for help or criticisms on the development of the game. :]

The Fury .PvP. Positions Vacant.

Sat, 26 Jul 2008 03:39:06 GMT
The Fury .PvP. Is a fast paced factional player verses player competitive MMO with an Asian martial arts theme. The world itself is inspired and influenced by Asian mythology, philosophy, religion and Gung Fu as well as Chinese, Japanese and Tibetan history. This is an indie project and as such there is no remuneration provided.

The game consists of 4 factions, Life, Death, Decay and Growth with each faction having a corresponding element, Water, Fire, Air and Earth. Classes can be either physically or mentally focused, which guaranties the starting skill focus of either physical attacks or mental attacks. This in no way is a limiting factor for the class as each class can learn selected skills from its opposite focus and primary, complementary and deficient element. Each class cannot however learn from its opposite element. Ie. Death/Fire cannot learn from Life/Water.

The Fury .PvP., being competition based will run over 8 week rounds. Points will be awarded across a number of areas through out the round with up to the minute ladders and scores providing an easy way to track ones performance.

The code is currently 80% complete and the world content 30% complete. We have a rather ambiguous aim to be release ready by years end.

We wish to invite applications from interested and talented individuals who posses skills across a wide variety of areas to join this project. The individuals we see should be able to work autonomously, be able to follow instruction, have excellent written communication skills and be able to work effectively to meet deadlines. Checkable references and or examples of work would be considered highly.

Builder: should have a proper understanding of English grammar, posses a creative imagination, able to describe objects, rooms and monsters within an Asian fantasy setting. Familiarity of smaug olc and or oasis olc would be highly regarded.

Editor: should have the ability to be able to test and come to a working understanding of all aspects of the game, with minimal input or starting information. Be able to write help files, create web content, user guides, game announcements and news posts.

Writer: possess a proper understanding of English grammar, posses a creative imagination, be able to take fragments of ideas and stories and form them into a cohesive whole. To be able to work within the developed story to bring aspects to the game including but no limited to instance zones and quest, including stories area maps and design information.

Artist: suitably skilled in all aspects of graphical arts, required to develop web content and in game graphical content. Familiarity with Asian mythology and fantasy creatures would be well regarded as would be ability to research such information.

Applications can be made by pointing your browser to this page http://fury.eldhamud2.org/jobs/application.html The game server can be located at fury.eldhamud2.org 8000. All applications will be replied to within 24 hours of receipt.

Thank you for your time,

Acclaim Games Seeks to Fill 2 Positions

Acclaim Games Seeks to Fill 2 Positions – From Our Active Communities

Los Angeles (July 7, 2008) – Today, Acclaim Games' CEO, Howard Marks announced that he is seeking to employ new talent from within Acclaim's player community – specifically from the active players of 2Moons, 9Dragons and the player-designers of the Top Secret Project.

The two positions will involve coordination with developers and technical teams, working to improve Acclaim's games and respond to the needs of the players.

"We know that we have talented, passionate people in our community. They know our games and they understand what can be done to improve them," says Howard Marks. "That's why we always look to our players first, and that's why we are looking to hire from within the community."

To find the right people for the two open positions, Marks has devised a test, as follows:
  • Each applicant is to write two documents of 3 to 5 pages each. One of these documents is for 2Moons and the other is for Acclaim's new game Ponystars.
  • Each document must explain what the game lacks in content and features that would improve the players' experiences, based on the targeted audience for that game.
  • Each applicant should make specific recommendations for how to improve the games (2Moons and Ponystars) to satisfy, retain and increase the player base.
  • The job is located in Los Angeles, California. The winners will be required to locate in that area, no exceptions.
  • Acclaim will cover relocation costs (up to $3,000).
The application period will begin at 10pm on Monday, July 7, 2008 and end at midnight on Sunday, July 20, 2008.

All applications must be submitted to dp@acclaim.com by 12 midnight on Sunday, July 20, 2008. All times are Pacific Daylight Time.

Applications will be judged by David Perry, and the winning applicants will be notified and offered a full-time position at Acclaim in their Los Angeles offices.

"This is a great opportunity for our community members to show their skills," says David Perry. "I have always believed in the community, which is why I started the Top Secret Project. I have already hired several members of our communities. I see this as a way to continue a practice that has worked out very well."

Remember, submit applications to dp@acclaim.com by midnight on Sunday, July 20, 2008.

MMOG C++ Game Client Developer

Tue, 08 Jul 2008 18:05:51 GMT
MMOG C++ Game Client Developer
Location: Home office
Compensation: $72,000 - $84,000

= Opportunity Snapshot ===
This unique position offers you the opportunity not only to get in on the ground floor of a highly creative, privately funded MMOG company (we answer to no publishers or venture capitalists), but also to share in the profits. You'll work remotely, anywhere in the continental US, and yet still enjoy a highly collaborative process with other dedicated, experienced, and professionally mature people, leveraging advanced online technologies. The game client will be your "baby" and you'll play a key role in shaping the actual user experience. At Quest Online we hire only talented people, and then give them the resources and the "elbow room" to do their magic.

Focusing on the game client, you'll develop across a broad spectrum of areas including client game logic, rendering pipelines, network code, scripting system support, and user interface integration. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have demonstrated expertise in C++ and experience with DirectX, ideally DX9 or 10. You also will need to be an avid gamer yourself -- we're looking for a professional who wants to build the kind of game he or she loves to play. In addition, you'll need to be able to work independently, communicate clearly and easily with other team members, and enjoy producing quality results against deadlines.

Founded in 2006, Quest Online, LLC (QOL) is an Arizona-based game development company building the upcoming MMOG title Alganon. Designed from scratch and based in a uniquely created world, the initial goal in designing Alganon is to provide simple gameplay with unlimited growth in a massive world of immersion and interaction.

= What Else You'll Bring to the Table ===
In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
* Solid understanding of programming concepts including event and distributed programming.
* Extensive experience with graphics programming and complex algorithms.
* Experience with the implementation of game, UI, camera, rendering, FX, 3D object, particle systems, and online network programming.
* Experience with code optimization.
* Complex graphical programming experience including Shader programming experience (HLSL/GLSL).
* Expertise in 3D math, physics, and rendering.
* A methodical approach to programming.

Experience with the following is preferred but not required:
* Animation programming.
* LUA scripting/integration.
* Subversion, JIRA, and Confluence.
* MMOG development.

While the position is that of a contractor, it is currently defined as perpetual in term. We are scheduled to launch Alganon in 2009, and after launch we anticipate that you'll continue to grow and refine the game client. This is a remote position, however due to the importance of this position, we require the candidate to be located somewhere within the continental United States.

= What's in It for You ===
Ground floor opportunity -- QOL was founded because the two principals, who bring MMOG experience and solid track records as entrepreneurs, recognized that the gaming landscape offers too few quality games. Our business model is a private studio, properly managed and with the right talent, entering the market with a quality product that offers the best of existing MMOGs as well as new and unique features.

Great work environment -- yes, you'll work remotely, but we utilize the latest online technologies to promote a highly collaborative endeavor. Team members who have come from other gaming companies say they are amazed at the level of mutual respect within QOL. You'll interact and share insights with a highly talented team using JIRA project management software, Confluence enterprise wiki, Skype communications, and more.

Career development -- you'll keep your skills sharp, learning new technologies and also learning our systems. We developed all our technologies from scratch in order to keep our vision pure.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to earning a competitive salary, you will participate in a profit sharing program tied directly to the success of the game. While no one can predict the future, if our forecasts are correct you will be earning six figures in the first year after release, and even more after that.

= More About Your Role ===
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the Director of Development (who is also one of QOL's founders), you will join a team of about 23, including Game, Web, and Database Developers; World Builders; and experts in music and sound effects. The entire team works virtually from around the country.

You will "inherit" the existing game client and invest the majority of your time adding features and further developing it. The original designer of the client is still on staff and can act as a resource to you. Your activities will fall into these key areas:
* Working with Game Designers to implement features on the game client.
* Working with the Server Development Team to implement network communication systems.
* Planning and managing the builds for the client, synchronized with the overall production version of the game content and database systems.
* Enhancing administrative and editing tools with features related to new game data.

= Keys to Success ===
This role involves much more than just programming; your experience with and passion for MMOGs will provide you the intuitive extra you need, such as understanding how shaders and terrain systems work. To excel in this role you will:
* Work hard and play hard, but also take care of yourself. You'll manage your own schedule and pace -- we're more concerned with quality results delivered to deadlines than with structured work hours. Of course, you'll need to be a little flexible in order to interact effectively with team members in several time zones.
* Learn a lot of new systems and technology fast, and then keep pace with a team that is already moving quickly.
* Maintain the discipline required to be effective in a virtual team structure.

= Who We Are ===
Alganon is a revolutionary fantasy-based MMORPG that allows thousands of people to play together in a virtual world that features multiple races, powerful weapons and armor, deadly magic, epic quests, ancient places to discover, the utilization of detailed tradeskills, and more.

We are creating a game that makes it easy for anyone to get started in and play, but also challenging enough that even the most skilled and hardcore gamer has the potential to grow beyond their expectations. In the Alganon world, the causal and hardcore gamer alike can adventure, grow, build, and share their accomplishments with other players.

For more information, please visit www.alganon.com and/or email your resume to resumes@qol.com
